COVID19 - public information

Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a respiratory illness caused by a new virus.

Symptoms range from a mild cough to pneumonia. Some people recover easily, others may get very sick very quickly. There is evidence that it spreads from person to person. Good hygiene can prevent infection.

COVID-19 has been declared a Public Health Emergency by the South Australian Government.

Both federal and state governments have put a range of measures in place to slow the spread of COVID-19, and on 18 March 2020 the Federal Government banned all non-essential indoor gatherings of more than 100 people.

The LGA is following the advice of SA Health as the lead agency for COVID-19 in South Australia, and providing regular updates to its member councils.

The LGA encourages everyone to visit the Commonwealth Department of Health and SA Health websites for updated information on COVID-19 and follow advice from these health authorities.
