With increasing community interest in, and support for, the importance of reducing food waste, councils are being encouraged to consider the benefits of introducing a broad-scale food waste program.
The incentives program is available to councils with kerbside green organics services. A once-off payment will be available, representing up to 50% of system costs (including food waste container, compostable bags where required, education material and delivery) to a maximum of $10 per tenement. The revised incentives program also provides up to five years of support for high performing, or 'area-wide' systems.
Applicants should detail:
- The type of food waste system to be implemented taking into account best practice principles;
- Education material to be developed to increase up-take; and
- How ongoing use of the systems will be supported.
To allow adequate time for the preparation of council budgets and grant agreements, council staff can submit applications now and seek council endorsement within three months of funding confirmation. Early submissions are encouraged. Guidelines and the on-line application form are available on the GISA website at: www.greenindustries.sa.gov.au/food-waste-incentives.
With strong interest in the program, councils are advised to contact GISA to discuss their application. Please contact Mr Justin Lang (Program Manager – Local Government, GISA) on 0419 948 931 or Justin.firstname.lastname@example.org.
Applications must be lodged with GISA no later than Friday, 9 February 2018.
