New Leaders for Local Government

Mayor Kym McHugh (Alexandrina Council) and Cr Jeff Burgess (Northern Areas Council) have been elected as the 2 country Vice-President's of SA's Local Government Association. Also vying for this position was Mayor Joy Baluch (Port Augusta Council).

Mayor Baluch had served as an LGA Vice-President for 12 years and members recognised her excellent contribution to the work of the LGA.

Mayor John Rich (Walkerville) and Mayor Tony Zappia (Salisbury) who were challenged by Mayor Lesley Purdom (Tea Tree Gully) and Mayor Felicity Lewis (Marion) take up the position of the 2 metropolitan Vice-Presidents.

The four Vice-Presidents are elected annually by the LGA State Executive Committee to support the President, Councillor John Legoe (Kingston) who was re-elected unopposed for the next 12 months by Councils prior to the LGA Annual General Meeting on October 8.

Mayor McHugh, 52, is a primary producer who has been a member of Alexandrina Council for 16 years, for 10 years as its Mayor. He is married with three children and three grandchildren.

The President, four Vice-Presidents, and the Immediate Past President (Cr Max Amber) form the LGA Senior Executive leadership group.
