Local Government Elections 2010

Introduction

Councils are part of the democratic framework of Australia. The community elects their Council Members every four years. Elections being held in 2010 will elect Councillors for the term ending in 2014. The specific requirements for conduct of the elections are set out in the Local Government (Elections) Act which was amended in 2009. Under the Act, the Electoral Commissioner is the returning officer for all Council elections.

Results

Results for the 2010 Local Government elections are provided here. The results below are the final results as supplied by the Electoral Commission of SA. Note that the LGA has posted results here during the count process within 10-30 minutes of receipt from ECSA. Results which may have been reported in media at an earlier point are not official and may not have been checked and authorised by ECSA which is why some media have carried information regarding results before they appear on this site.  The LGA appreciates the support from the Electoral Commission of SA in providing these results to us to assist SA communities and media. It is worth noting that with 194 separate elections and 1274 candidates the Council elections were more complex than State or Federal elections.
