2006 Post Election Surveys
Following the general Local Government elections in November 2006 the LGA commissioned two independent surveys:

Councillor Allowances
Following widespread public debate about options for Councillor Allowances, the LGA commissioned McGregor Tan Research to ascertain community views about allowance levels for Council Members. It found that most people thought Councillor allowances should be above $12,000. The full report is attached. Local Councillor Allowances

Support for Voluntary Voting
The majority of people support voluntary voting for Council elections (68%) according to this independently conducted community survey conducted in February, 2006: Voluntary Voting - Community Survey 2006

LGA Member Satisfaction Surveys
The LGA has engaged a research firm to undertake regular (every 3 years) research to determine how representatives of member Councils perceived and measured the roles and services of the LGA.
The most recent survey was undertaken in late 2005, with a report prepared in 2006, by McGregor Tan Research. We also asked them to report whether there have been any major differences in this perception since 2002.

The "Workforce Planning for Local Government in South Australia - Councils in Profile" project has been undertaken to assist the sector to respond to emerging trends and changing needs in Local Government and communities that impact on the Local Government workforce. It can be used as the basis for individual Council assessment of workforce planning issues and/or as the basis for the development of a Council's Workforce Plan. The Australian Bureau of Statistics collects a great deal of information based on Council areas and on Councils themselves. Some of this has been purchased by the LGA for Councils and some may be accessed by others or Councils on its website: http://www.abs.gov.au/.
