Creating Communities -
A good practice guide to arts and cultural development for Local Government
In 2002 the Creative Communities Network (a network of Local Government cultural development workers and arts support bodies) gained support from the Local Government Association, Arts South Australia and Country Arts SA for the Creating Communities project. The project undertook an audit of Local Government involvement in arts and cultural activities and prepared a draft policy for the LGA, guidelines for Councils to develop and maintain arts and cultural policy, policy story sheets and good practice story sheets. Commissioning Public Art - a Guide for Local Government
Arts SA successfully applied for Local Government Research & Development Scheme funding in 2002 to undertake a 'Commissioning Public Art - a Guide for Local Government' project to develop a range of materials to assist Councils to successfully conceive, develop and implement projects involving artists in the public realm. The guidelines (including appendices) produced for the project titled 'PUBLIC ART : making it happen, commissioning guidelines for local Councils' are attached below.
The content of the guidelines has been developed and written by Arts SA's Public Art and Design (PA&D) team, informed by the extensive number of public art and design projects with which Arts SA has been involved, in various capacities, over the past 20 years.

Creative Councils -
The South Australian Arts and Local Government Consultancy Project
This 1993 project report continues to be in demand. The project placed the experienced Prospect Council in a developmental project with the Pt Pirie and Marion Councils - both of which had little prior experience in arts and cultural development. It produced some interesting and creative results.
