Climate Risk Training & Engagement Package
This project has established a suite of resources for use by councils. It explains the role that council key decision-makers have in managing climate risk. It provides a consistent message aligned with councils key responsibilities and duties regarding managing any significant strategic risk within the council.

Why are climate risk and assessment planning important?
Governments today face legal and financial liabilities if they fail to adequately consider climate change risk in their planning and decision-making.
Governments must consider climate change risk and community support when planning for the future. This includes physical, financial, legal, and transitional risks.
Government agencies that fail to mitigate, manage, and disclose climate risks in their governance and decision-making will expose themselves to legal liabilities and litigation as both actors and regulators in legislation, policy, and delivery.
Development of training materials
The training material includes four modules containing training slides, training videos, presenter notes, training guides, and specific case studies for council officers and managers.

- Module 3 - Climate Risk Assessment
- Additional resources and case studies.
The training modules were developed in collaboration with consultants from BRM Advisory. The consultants worked closely with the working group and key stakeholders to develop and test the training materials.
Council involvement and evaluation
The piloting approach involved approximately 33 people across seven councils. The feedback gathered through this process led to further improvements in the training modules.
Overall, the project participants rated the training as relevant with:
- Over 90% of participants rated the training modules as good or very good.
- The pilot training received an average rating of 8.8 out of 10 regarding being recommended to others in local government.
- 95% of the staff involved in the project agreed that the content was relevant to their role as relevant to their role.
