Coastal Adaptation - Stage One

The funding is for a dedicated project manager to manage the coastal adaptation project. This project manager will work to ensure that the project successfully delivered the best outcomes to the sector.

Project Background

South Australia has over 5000km of coastline with 90% of the population living on or near the coast. With 34 of the 68 SA councils responsible for coastal management in their region.

The LGA has worked in partnership with the Department of Environment and Water to successfully gain $3.7 million in funding from the Government Coastal and Estuarine Risk Management Program. The Program Guidelines do not allow for the funding of staffing and this cost and function needs to be met elsewhere.

This project purpose is to fund a dedicated project manager to manage the coastal adaptation project.  This project manager will work with the approved project methodologies to successfully delivers the best outcomes for the sector.

Project Progress, April 2024

Current completion: 75%

The project has progressed well. The program manager has been appointed and has undertaken the tasks identified in the project plan including:

  • regular reporting to funding partners
  • presentations and workshops with stakeholders
  • engagement of consultants to perform the foundation projects
  • managing the secondment of a Department for Environment and Water support officer.
