In 2021 the LGA established a Disability Inclusion Advisory Group made up of people with disability who can provide the sector with advice based on their lived experience.

Members of the advisory group represented a range of disability experiences and diversity. This included people from different age groups, cultural backgrounds, genders and experiences of disability.

The group worked with the LGA to provide sector-wide advice on:

• inclusive emergency management
• inclusive communications
• council elections
• library services

The group also supported councils with their Disability Action and Inclusion Plans, resulting in improvements in accessibility for those people living with disability.

Resources produced by the group to assist to create inclusive communities include:

• Podcast - six tips for good engagement
• 5 minute video - with the Advisory Group discussing inclusive communities

The Disability Inclusion Advisory Group completed the project to deliver these resources to councils in 2022.
