Asset management guidance for small rural councils

This project's final report and evaluation was completed on 30 May 2017

Project approach

IPWEA was asked to produce a new Asset Management template suitable for any size Council, including small regional Councils.

Project achievements

As part of IPWEA’s broad revision of their suite of asset management tools, now re-badged as 'NAMS.PLUS3' IPWEA has made available to members of the LGASA a new Concise Asset Management Plan Template that can be used even in the absence of an asset register.   It can also be integrated, if desired, with the existing IPWEA website and NAMS.PLUS system

Project outputs and outcomes

The Concise Asset Management Plan template (see the Word document linked above on this page)

Project distribution

The template is provided on this page for use by SA Councils.  A more comprehensive template is also available from IPWEA, for councils that subscribe to NAMS.PLUS.

Performance measures

The relevant measures will be the rate of take-up of this template in Council documents

Concurrently (although not part of this defined R&D project) IPWEA has completed its 2017 update of all its templates, seeking to ensure that they:

  • Are written consistently with IIMM 2015 and the ISO 55000 series
  • Use international language that is broadly suitable
  • Can be used by any infrastructure authority whether Local Government or other.
