Consultation on draft 2026 Model Financial Statements

The 2026 Model Financial Statements have been approved by Local Government Minister, the Hon Rhiannon Pearce MP, and are now available.
Call for responses to survey on the value of community centres

LGA is investigating the social and economic value of community centres and neighbourhood houses.
Centres were recently invited to take part in a survey. The consultants are now in the processes of collating the data with a final report due to LGA by end of April 2026.
Next steps from the 2025 Coastal Jetties Summit

The LGA Board of Directors endorsed a series of key principles to advance a sustainable, long-term approach to jetty management and advocacy in South Australia.
Federal inquiry into local government funding and fiscal sustainability

LGA and other peak bodies have been calling for this inquiry since May 2025, when the previous inquiry lapsed. LGA have made a formal submission to this inquiry on behalf of the sector to highlight concerns.
Update on Supplementary Local Road Funding program

We invited councils and regional LGAs to share their stories about the impact of road underfunding and local cost increases. We continue to advocate for ongoing, indexed SLRF. See our submission to the federal budget process.
Seeking member feedback on drought rates relief proposal
Closed on: 7 July 2025
We developed a joint submission with Primary Producers SA for a state-funded council rates relief scheme. Member input helped strengthen our proposal.
State government released a $73.4 million drought relief package but did not approve the council rate relief scheme. LGA will continue to advocate strongly for additional support.
Have your say on updated guidelines for council support during bushfires

Councils were invited to give feedback on updated guidelines on how councils can safely support the CFS during a bushfire. Council input makes sure the guideline meet their capabilities and capacity.
The Joint Operating Guideline has now been finalised and approved.
Give feedback to inform Climate Ready Regions project

LGA developed a discussion paper to seek feedback as part of the SA Climate Ready Regions project. Member feedback tested our findings and guided the next project stage.
From this, we’ve developed a proposal for the Climate Ready Alliances program. This program aims to build a stronger, more connected model to address current and future climate risks and strategic challenges.
