RPSA Voters Roll Practice Manual - 2022 Council Elections

Revenue Professionals SA has successfully updated, simplified and restructured the Voters Roll Practice Manual in readiness for the 2022 Council elections. The Practice Manual is available to all member Councils throughout South Australia and provides much-needed support to local government officers in carrying out their legislated duties during the Council election process.

Project report

The Voters Roll Practice Manual provides rating professionals across South Australian councils with guidance on the statutory requirements of councils under the Local Government (Elections) Act 1999 and supporting regulations. The 2021 Voters Roll Practice Manual encompasses all updates to legislation since the 2018 elections.

Project achievements

RPSA engaged the services of Kelledy Jones Lawyers in 2020 to update the Voters Roll Practice Manual, previously issued in 2018. The Practice Manual has been updated, reflecting all legislative changes since the previous version. The LGA and ECSA were consulted as part of the update, with feedback provided by both organisations. The Voters Roll Practice Manual has been uploaded to the RPSA website for distribution and sent to the LGA for their records. RPSA intends to further promote use of the Practice Manual at the 2022 RPSA Conference.

The manual has now been distributed via the LGA and RPSA website, we anticipate it will provide support to South Australian councils in the lead-up to the 2022 Council Elections.

Recognition of the LGR&DS has been made on pages 2 & 52 (index & back page) of the Manual.

Evaluation

Due to the nature of the project, evaluation is difficult however we expect some level of feedback from council staff after dissemination.
