Creation of digital twin of CWMS in Quorn – Phase 1

Phase 1 of this project focused on delivering a static digital twin of the CWMS in Quorn using technology provided by IoT Consultants.

The objective was to enhance asset visibility, support proactive planning, and lay the groundwork for future integration of real-time monitoring and sensor data.

Who this is for

This project supports SA councils, Community Wastewater Management System (CWMS) operators, businesses and regulators.

What's being delivered

  • Creation of a static digital twin of the CWMS in Quorn.
  • Design of a dashboard concept which shows asset conditions, maintenance logging and performance tracking.

About the project

The methodology of this project was based around four key pillars:

  • data gathering
  • model development
  • strategic planning for Phase 2
  • user-centred interface design.

A key challenge in Phase 1 was the fragmented nature of the asset information. This is an issue commonly encountered in local government infrastructure management.

With limited documentation available, a combination of data engineering and informed assumptions was used to transform and consolidate the materials provided.

Outcomes

A digital twin of the CWMS in Quorn was created. The model includes geo-referenced representations of gravity/pressure pipes, pump station, lagoon and discharge system.

The model provides pre-visualisation of works and planning reviews without physical inspection. It also identifies any infrastructure inefficacies, maintenance issues and upgrade opportunities.

A dashboard concept and design was developed and tailored to FRC operations. This allows the council to view asset conditions, maintenance logging and performance tracking.

A scalable methodology for other councils has also been designed, with small council resourcing in mind.
