Independent review of South Australia’s planning system
The expert panel, to be led by planning consultant John Stimson, will review the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act and Planning and Design Code.
Other members of the panel are Cate Hart, President of the Planning Institute of Australia (SA), Andrew McKeegan, Executive Director Transport Property in the Department of Transport with the Victorian Government, Lisa Teburea, Executive Group Manager Planning and Urban Policy with the ACT Government.
During the state election, the LGA advocated for an independent and comprehensive review of the planning system and were pleased to see the new State Government include the review as an election commitment.
The six-month review is proposed to cover:
- the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016
- the Planning and Design Code and related instruments, as it relates to infill policy, trees, character, heritage and car parking
- the ePlanning system, to ensure it is delivering an efficient and user-friendly process and platform
- the PlanSA website to check usability and ease of community access to information.
The LGA will engage with the panel on the issues local government have raised since the new planning system was first implemented.
The panel will provide recommendations to the government next year.
