Council Member Allowances and Benefits - Model Policy and Model Register
Part 5 of the Local Government Act 1999 sets out provisions relating to allowances for council members and requirements for a Register of Allowances and Benefits.
The Council Members’ Allowances and Benefits Model Policy is to help councils adopt a policy that satisfies the legislative requirements and sets out arrangements for allowances and the provision of facilities and support to council members.
The Model Policy incorporates changes from the commencement of relevant provisions in the Statutes Amendment (Local Government Review) Act 2021.
A Model Allowances and Benefits Register (excel format) has also been developed. This is to support councils with recording and publishing relevant information on allowances and benefits for council members.
