LGA’s Model Behavioural Management Policy applies to all councils

17 November 2022
Transitional Regulations have commenced which deem that the LGA’s Behavioural Management Policy applies to all South Australian councils.

The Statutes Amendment (Local Government Review) (Commencement) Proclamation 2022 (Proclamation) was made on 17 November 2022 which commences the new conduct management framework and integrity provisions, including the Behavioural Management Framework.

This framework is a major component of South Australia’s local government reform. A key element of this new framework is the mandatory Behavioural Management Policy.

New Local Government (Transitional Provisions) (Conduct) Amendment Regulations 2022 deem the LGA’s Model Behavioural Management Policy (Model Policy) as each council’s Behavioural Management Policy until each council subsequently adopts its own policy.

Details about the LGA’s Model Behavioural Management Policy are available online.

Note for councils: The Model Policy does not need to be adopted by your council. However, you will need to ensure details of the relevant addresses (e.g. email and postal address) for lodgement of a complaint under the Behavioural Management Policy are published to your council website.

The following link to the LGA website (and the LGA Model Behavioural Management Policy) should also be published to your council website until such time as your council adopts its own policy:
