Represent the local government sector at the Royal Commission into Early Childhood Education and Care
The LGA has been invited to participate in the stakeholder roundtables for the Royal Commission into Early Childhood Education and Care being led by Hon Julia Gillard AC, Royal Commissioner.
There are many activities which councils undertake which influence early childhood, such as:
- Childcare centres (8 councils offer childcare centres)
- libraries and community centres, and the programs they offer for pre-schoolers
- Infrastructure such as playgrounds, recreation and sports facilities.
Many councils benefitted recently through the Department for Education’s Early Childhood Community Innovation Grants administered by the LGA.
Those applications demonstrate the exciting breadth of services councils offer in this area, such as:
- programs which support children’s health
- street events for children
- developing child-friendly council strategies
- supporting playgroups.
The LGA nominee could be a council staff member with interest or expertise in early childhood who can represent the local government sector at the roundtable.
The roundtables will meet on 1 February 2023 and during the week of 20 March 2023 (TBC), as well as at a briefing session in the week beginning 5 December 2022.
The LGA appreciates your patience with this very tight timeframe.
If you are interested in undertaking this role and available at the times proposed, please contact Katherine Russell, Manager Policy Projects, by Thursday 24 November with a short summary of why you are suitable.
