2 September 2022

Green Industries SA’s has now open two grant programs:

  2. Kerbside Performance Plus Food Organics Incentives

Councils are able to apply for funding from these programs.

Council Modernisation Grants

The Council Modernisation Grants Program is for councils to improve their performance in waste management and resource recovery through the introduction of innovative measures.

The funding is available to all South Australian councils and subsidiaries that manage waste, recycling, and organics services for residential and small business ratepayers. This includes:

  • waste
  • recyclables and organics collected through kerbside collected bins
  • hard waste collections,
  • materials collected at drop-off facilities,
  • public place recycling
  • council-operated commercial services.

Priority areas that are eligible for funding under this program include but are not limited to:

  • Using technology to innovate – software applications and infrastructure
  • Pilot projects to increase food waste diversion in multi-unit dwellings
  • Market research to assess ratepayer attitudes to a range of service delivery matters
  • Cost benefit analysis – standardisation of bin systems
  • Regional waste management plans updated to account for SA’s Waste and Resource Recovery Plan
  • Solutions for problematic wastes

Kerbside Performance Plus Food Organics Incentives Program

The Kerbside Performance Plus Food Organics Incentives Program assists councils to implement sustainable and efficient food organics recycling systems.

It recognises that disposing food to landfill represents the loss of valuable resources, and that when food organics are blended with kerbside green organic material, it improves the quality and nutrient value of the processed compost.

For guidelines and to apply, please visit the GISA website. Applications must be lodged by 7 October 2022.
