New reports on urban greening and tree regulations
Two significant new reports on urban greening and tree regulations in South Australia have been published. This is part of the State Planning Commission’s Open Spaces and Trees Project.
An independent arborist review contains an analysis of tree species exemptions. This includes a value and cost assessment of particular tree species. Dr Dean Nicolle of Calyptra undertook the review in consultation with Green Adelaide, the Department for Environment and Water, and the State Herbarium and Botanic Gardens.
A separate research report analyses South Australia’s tree protections, compared to other Australian states and territories. This also includes the size of trees protected and the exemptions that apply. The report was from the Environmental Institute of the University of Adelaide.
