Passing of Queen Elizabeth II
The Australian Flag should be flown at half-mast immediately for the next 10 days.
Australian citizenship ceremonies should continue to take place and her portrait should continue to be displayed in line with the Australian Citizenship Ceremonies Code. Formal advice from the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet states that the Queen’s portrait should continue to be displayed throughout a period of mourning.
There will be an official announcement in Parliament for when His Royal Highness, King Charles III will be announced as the new Monarch. Following this announcement further advice on future protocols (including the use of portraits of the new King) will be provided.
More information can be found by visiting the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. This FAQ page contains protocol information which is being updated.
Councils will be updated on any other appropriate protocols and how local governments can mark observances of Her Majesty’s passing.
