Give your feedback on the Flooding Hazards Mapping Update Code Amendment

24 February 2023
The State Government has released the Flooding Hazards Mapping Update Code Amendment for public consultation.

Local councils can now give feedback on the Flooding Hazards Mapping Update Code Amendment – the first step in a wider project to introduce new and updated flood hazard mapping into SA’s Planning and Design Code.

This will impact 13 local government areas and several regional townships and outback areas.

It is important for the Code to identify areas likely to flood to reduce the potential impacts to people, property, infrastructure and the environment.

The Code’s planning policies aim to restrict new development in high-risk flood areas and encourage suitable design responses in lower risk areas.

Background

This Code Amendment is the first stage of the Flood Hazard Mapping and Assessment Project, which is being delivered in three stages.

The second stage of the project involves procurement and a review of new flood studies and contemporary flood data to inform new flood hazard policies and mapping for the entire state.

The third and final stage of the project is a state-wide Flooding Hazards Code Amendment, which will seek to implement the revised flood hazard policies and mapping into the Code.
