Applications open for enabling infrastructure projects to support new housing development
The latest round of funding, opened at the Australian Council of Local Government in Canberra, is aimed at enabling infrastructure and community amenity projects such as roads, utility connections, parks, footpaths and open spaces, which supports new housing.
The Community Enabling Infrastructure Stream forms part of the federal government’s Housing Support Program designed to achieve the National Housing Accord’s target of building 1.2 million homes over the next five years.
Examples of eligible construction projects to support new housing development could include:
- upgrade or new construction of roads, excluding roads listed on the National Land Transport Network
- upgrade, augmentation or new construction/installation of existing utilities
- works which eliminate or mitigate a risk to new residential properties from natural disasters
- construction of amenities such as parks and common outdoor spaces.
Applications close 5pm AEST on Friday 16 August 2024.
Enabling infrastructure and community amenity works are critical to unlock housing growth in South Australia. To ensure members can apply and meet the guidelines, LGA has asked Canberra to consider extending application timeframes to support planning and any community engagement.
