Funding to revitalise community spaces
LGA President Dean Johnson said councils play a pivotal role in transforming open spaces, which not only enhance community wellbeing but also stimulate local economies.
“Through thoughtful design and strategic funding, such as the Open Space Grant Program, we are able to cultivate areas that invite social interaction and foster a strong sense of community,” Mayor Johnson said.
"Investing in public spaces is not just about beautification either—it's about breathing new life into public spaces to make them beneficial and useful for members of the community.
“The incredible number of applications received indicates there is strong demand from councils work with the state government to revitalise public spaces, providing residents with vibrant areas to enjoy and connect.
"As these projects unfold, they will become important areas for these communities—together with those who visit, to showcase the important role well-designed open spaces play in fostering social bonds and supporting local cultures.”
The grants, with matched funding of up to $500,000, provide will allow four council public space projects to commence – helping foster well-connected communities and increasing quality of life.
Minister for Housing and Urban Development Nick Champion MP said it was vital to improve and update open spaces and public realm.
“We want people to feel connected to their neighbourhoods and ensure they are sustainable long into the future,” Minister Champion said.
“These grants will enable councils to reimagine and create unique, local spaces across South Australia.
“I look forward to seeing the successful projects use the funds to deliver high quality projects within their communities.”
The successful projects are:
