Help end homelessness in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout

14 June 2024
Leaders from across South Australia will spend the night sleeping outdoors to raise vital funds for homelessness services.

LGA South Australia CEO Clinton Jury is an ambassador for the event and is this year participating for the fifth time.

“With the ongoing housing shortages and affordability challenges in our regions, we’re seeing more South Australians forced onto the streets,” Mr Jury said.

“LGA has been advocating for enhanced partnerships, alternative funding models and better incentives to support the housing crisis, including collaborative efforts with councils to increase supply and build essential infrastructure.

“We need more leaders to help us address this growing crisis of poverty and homelessness – and the Vinnies CEO sleepout is one avenue to show our support.

“As the closest level of government to communities, councils are seeing the growing incidence of rough sleeping homelessness – both in metropolitan and regional areas.

“It’s through partnership and increased awareness that we can effectively and sustainably play our part in alleviating the causes of homelessness.”

Clinton will be joined by leaders from across the state, including Adelaide Plains Council CEO James Miller.

The Vinnies CEO Sleepout is being held on 20 June at the Adelaide Oval to support a new wave of South Australians experiencing, or on the brink, of poverty and homelessness.*

Now in its 15th year, registrations are now open for the 2024 Vinnies CEO Sleepout, which has in the past attracted corporate, government and NGO leaders who have gone on to pave the way for the state.

Vinnie’s SA Chief Executive Officer Evelyn O'Loughlin emphasised now more than ever, leaders from across our community, business and government sectors at every stage of their careers are needed.

“Leaders can join together on the longest night of the year to better understand the impact of poverty and homelessness, while raising much-needed dollars,” Ms O’Loughlin said.

Vinnies is a primary supporter of homelessness in SA, providing thousands of men, women, children and their pets with emergency accommodation 24/7, 365 days of the year.

In addition to these services, Vinnies also provides 36,662 meals for South Australians doing it tough through Fred’s Van each year and through 2,750 instances of assistance, including food hampers, clothing and fuel vouchers to vulnerable refugees and migrants.
