New educational resources bring local government to life

20 March 2024
The History Trust of South Australia and the Local Government Association of South Australia have collaborated to provide teachers and students with a range of new resources all about local government.

The new resources have everything teachers need to bring local government to life in the classroom, including engaging videos, posters, interactive worksheets, customizable templates, and so much more!

Teachers can guide students through lesson plans, using videos and fact sheets, helping them explore the history, role and distinct responsibilities of councils.

What’s inside

  • Comprehensive teaching unit: Australian curriculum-aligned unit covering civics and citizenship, complete with ready-to-go lesson plans, worksheets, and a plethora of supporting materials.
  • Engaging posters: Uncover the what, how, and who of local government in SA through bright and engaging posters.
  • Video series: Explore a four-part series that demystifies local government, covering everything from elections to how young people can get involved.
  • Inspirational profiles: Meet the diverse 'Faces of Local Government' across our councils, and discover their passions, roles and tips for young people looking to make a difference.
  • Fun factsheets: Teachers can enhance lessons with factsheets offering surprising insights into South Australia's local governments.

By integrating these materials into the curriculum, we're aiming to make a positive difference in the learning experience of young people. This aims to encourage them to be active and engaged community members as they grow.

The new resources are now available on the History Trust of SA website. They will be available to schools, educators and those interested in learning more about local government.
