Prepare your council for upcoming bridge asset funding round
This initiative helps council road managers assess heavy vehicle impacts, such as on bridges and culverts, to improve road networks across the country.
Phase 3, which was been allocated $6.55 million of funding through to the year 2026, will focus on providing bridge and culvert assessments which will complement the civil/traffic asset engineering function councils may have.
A priority approach, coupled with asset geolocation data, will be used to identify which assets on local freight routes have the highest importance to heavy vehicle access and the freight task.
The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator will proactively engage with councils on identified assets, while still allowing local governments to nominate assets.
Councils are encouraged to be proactive ahead of Phase 3 commencing at the end of October and provide the project team with:
- a list of all bridge and culvert structures including a unique identifier, coordinates and structure type
- a list of asset assessment priorities
- any detailed design drawings, photographs, inspection reports, assessment reports which may assist.
This will help ensure South Australian councils are actively involved in the consultation process.
