Recommendations
We support the vision and objectives outlined in the plan which support sustainable growth across the Adelaide region.
Successful implementation of the Greater Adelaide Regional Plan depends on strong collaboration between the state government and local councils.
Effective delivery of the plan
We’ve made several recommendations to the planning commission to make sure the plan is delivered effectively. These cover:
- resourcing considerations, including a skilled planning and development workforce, construction workers and funding within state and local government to deliver the plan
- funding hard infrastructure requirements as suburbs and towns change and grow
- strategic alignment with other long-term planning such as infrastructure, public transport, schools and healthcare
- collaboration between state and local government, including on future growth areas, guides and templates on infrastructure planning and infrastructure schemes.
Objectives and targets in the plan
There are also several recommendations about the objectives and targets in the plan. These could be strengthened to focus on:
- housing diversity
- minimising building footprint on smaller allotments
- urban greening and cooling
- water protection
- social infrastructure targets to support growing communities
- amalgamation of land in strategic infill areas
- considerations for waste management and associated infrastructure, which has the potential to become a significant issue as the population grows
- climate change and building resilience.
Next steps
