Applications for latest Mobile Black Spot Program funding round now open

14 January 2025
South Australian councils can now apply for funding through Round 8 of the Mobile Black Spot Program.

The federal government is providing up to $55 million to co-fund projects with the telco industry that will deliver new and improved mobile coverage and competition in regional and remote areas of Australia prone to natural disasters, to assist during times of emergency.

How to identify local projects

A Project Noticeboard for Round 8 allows local councils – as well as state and federal parliamentarians – to identify potential projects or locations which would benefit from new and improved mobile coverage.

Councils are encouraged to work with their local communities to identify potential projects or locations and to make a submission to the Noticeboard before it closes on Friday 7 February 2025.

Experience has shown when local councils engage with the telco industry, it increases the likelihood that issues will be resolved or the industry will put forward applications for co-funding under state and federal government programs.

Who is eligible

Applicants require an Australian Business Number (ABN) and all funded solutions must provide retail mobile services for a minimum of 10 years after becoming operational.

Applications must be lodged by Wednesday 30 April 2025.
