Special Local Roads Program funding round opening soon

29 January 2025
An annual funding round supporting local roads in South Australian communities will open in less than five weeks and local councils are being encouraged to prepare their submissions accordingly.

Applications for the 2025-26 Special Local Roads Program grant round will open at 9am on Monday 3 March and close at 4pm on Monday 14 April.

All councils are eligible to apply for this funding, which is designed to:

  • prioritise strategic or significant local road projects which improve regional and metropolitan road networks for economic, social, environmental and safety outcomes
  • support the delivery of local roads through evidence-based decisions which draw upon the best available state, regional and local plans.

Last year, this grant funding provided more than $21 million to South Australian local road projects.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online through LGA’s grant portal.

Councils will be sent a link to the application form when the grant round is open.

All applications must include a council contribution of no less than one-third of the total project cost for rural and regional councils, and no less than one-half of the total project cost for metropolitan councils.

Applications will be assessed by the Local Government Transport Advisory Panel against the criteria in the program’s funding guidelines.
