Councils invited to have their say on state’s Biodiversity Act
The next stage in implementing South Australia’s new Biodiversity Act is now underway, with the State Government seeking feedback on draft regulations to establish four committees:
- Biodiversity Council
- Clearance Assessment Committee
- Aboriginal Biodiversity Committee
- Scientific Committee
The draft regulations set out committee membership requirements, skills and experience, appointment arrangements and procedures.
The committees will have an important role in shaping how the Biodiversity Act is implemented, including advising on and approving key policies, regulations and guidelines.
The consultation closes on 15 September 2026. LGA will develop its own submission on behalf of the sector.
South Australia’s first Biodiversity Act – designed to protect, enhance and restore our biodiversity, and address the impacts of climate change – passed State Parliament in mid-2025.
