Councils invited to learn about partnering with degree-based apprenticeship program

5 June 2026
Flinders University is inviting South Australian councils to learn more about how they can partner with its degree-based apprenticeship program, through a series of upcoming industry information sessions.

Degree-based apprenticeships allow students to complete degrees in mechanical, electrical or civil engineering while being employed as an apprentice by an industry partner.

Students spend 2-3 days a week at university and the remaining days in active employment, putting their learning into practice from day one.

How councils can get involved

Already, Flinders University has partnered with City of Charles Sturt and Mount Barker District Council, with both councils committing to employing a degree apprentice studying civil engineering from 2027.

The industry-driven program is co-designed with employers, ensuring it delivers job-ready graduates.

Councils who partner with Flinders University will receive comprehensive support in delivering the degree-based apprenticeship program, which is an opportunity to help shape future leaders in civil engineering across South Australia.
