Federal funding available for local road projects

25 August 2026
Councils can apply for a share of the Federal Government’s Safer Local Roads Infrastructure Program (SLRIP), with the next funding round opening on 1 September 2026.

The $200 million per year grant program supports the construction and upgrade of local road infrastructure, with a focus on road safety, while continuing to support projects that improve productivity, resilience and sustainability.

Local councils can apply for up to $5 million per project, with funding provided on a co-contribution basis.

Previous projects funded through SLRIP have included new and replacement bridges, sealing gravel roads and upgrades to road surfaces and safety infrastructure.

Applications are open until 31 January 2027.
