Have your say on GP services in your council area
Why this is important?
Access to primary healthcare remains a significant challenge for some regional and rural communities. In some rural areas, the current health system is not meeting the needs of these communities.
Smaller populations, competition for health professionals, complex local health needs and the higher cost of delivering services in regional areas can make it difficult to maintain adequate access to GPs and other primary healthcare services.
In some cases, councils are stepping in to help fill gaps in local healthcare provision. While this support can be critical for communities, it can also place additional financial pressure on councils and their communities.
LGA is gathering information on what councils contribute to ensure their communities have access to healthcare services. This will enable LGA to better understand the sectors concerns related to healthcare and provide an informed and inform LGA’s advocacy with state and federal governments.
The information will also contribute to the broader national discussion about the sustainability of rural and regional healthcare, being led by the Rural Health Funding Alliance.
