LGA South Australia appoints Victoria MacKirdy as new CEO
As CEO at the City of Victor Harbor since 2018, Victoria has had a distinguished career working in both regional and metropolitan councils for nearly 30 years, as well as six years in the private sector.
Her experience also encompasses a wide range of roles including President of Local Government Professionals Australia and South Australia, as well as a Board Director at Country Arts South Australia and Regional Development Australia Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island.
Victoria’s appointment as LGA CEO comes after a thorough and competitive recruitment process, which saw a highly qualified and experienced field of candidates considered for the role from across the country.
Having spent many years in local government, Victoria said the opportunity to represent the sector collectively, build on existing shared service offerings, and champion the interests of councils and communities on key issues is what attracted her to the role.
“I am honoured to be appointed CEO and be given the opportunity to lead the LGA team to support and represent the local government sector,” Victoria said.
“LGA plays a unique role in bringing the sector together and delivering valued services, and I look forward to building on this to make a difference for councils right across South Australia.
“I’m grateful for the confidence the LGA Board has placed in me through this appointment.”
LGA South Australia President, Mayor Dr Heather Holmes-Ross said Victoria brings a wealth of local government experience, which is highly valued and essential for guiding LGA’s strategic direction.
“Victoria’s extensive council and private sector knowledge coupled with her strong leadership qualities and credentials made her a standout candidate for the CEO role,” Mayor Holmes-Ross said.
“As a Board, we gave careful consideration to the kind of person and skillset we wanted in this position to deliver on LGA’s strategic goals, with a focus on creating new opportunities for sector collaboration and creating value for members.
“Victoria brings a clear commitment to the sector, and we are confident she will build on LGA’s role as an important partner to councils, government and stakeholders.”
Victoria will commence in the LGA CEO position from 20 July 2026.
