LGA website platform upgrade moves into next phase

12 August 2026
LGA is progressing the next phase of its upgrade to Squiz DXP, with the migration of LGA's Squiz platform now underway.

LGA currently manages around 130 council websites through the LGA Squiz platform, helping councils save thousands of dollars through a shared platform at a fraction of the cost of managing and maintaining individual platforms themselves.

The upgrade will provide a stronger, more modern platform for councils using Squiz, improving website performance, reliability and access to new digital tools and capabilities.

Squiz is currently targeting late September 2026 for go live.

Why are we upgrading?

The move to Squiz DXP is about ensuring council websites remains reliable, secure and fit for the future, while improving the digital experience for  residents accessing information online.

The DXP environment provides a number of benefits, including:

  • improved website performance and page load times
  • a platform that can continue to evolve as councils' digital needs change.
  • greater integration capabilities with other systems
  • stronger infrastructure and scalability
  • access to newer Squiz tools and integrations
  • improved search functionality through the latest version of Funnelback
  • improved options for managing large datasets and complex website functionality.

The first phase of the migration, completed earlier this year, moved the Squiz servers to Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure and included a number of important technical changes.

What is happening in Phase II?

The second phase is now underway, with an experienced team of Squiz developers working with LGA’s Web Solutions team.

The work includes:

  • Improving website performance
Squiz will address slow-loading URLs and refactor elements such as large homepage banners, mega-menus and listings that can affect page load times.
  • Upgrading search
Funnelback collections will be improved to take advantage of the latest version, including improvements to Events collections.
  • Cemetery and Graves
A new system will be developed using Squiz DXP tools to better manage large datasets.
  • My Local Services App integration
Providing a more modern approach to connecting the platform with the My Local Services App.
  • Single Sign-On
Single Sign-On (SSO) will be reconfigured using the Squiz DXP SAML Account Manager.

There are also a range of other technical and platform improvements being made as part of the migration.

The focus is on delivering a better-performing, more reliable platform while creating opportunities for councils to take advantage of new functionality and integrations in the future.

LGA’s Web Solutions team will continue to work closely with Squiz throughout the migration and testing process.
