Councils to vote on priority items at next week's OGM

21 May 2026
South Australian council representatives will gather in Adelaide next week to vote on key advocacy and policy priorities for the sector at the LGA Ordinary General Meeting and Conference on Friday 29 May.

Member councils are invited to put forward Items of Business throughout the year on matters of importance to local government for sector-wide consideration and debate.

Items endorsed by councils at the OGM help inform our advocacy agenda with state and federal governments.

What members will vote on

Councils will discuss and vote on the following Items of Business at the OGM:

Unfair burden of the Construction Industry Training Fund Amendment Act

Submitted by District Council of Streaky Bay, the motion seeks advocacy regarding the impacts and financial burden placed on councils under changes introduced through the Construction Industry Training Fund Amendment Act.

Supply of portable water and sewage through growth areas identified under the Greater Adelaide Regional Plan

Submitted by Adelaide Plains Council, the motion calls for advocacy to ensure critical water and sewer infrastructure is delivered to support growth areas identified under the Greater Adelaide Regional Plan.

Stronger penalties for damaging trees

Submitted by City of Port Adelaide Enfield, the motion seeks stronger penalties and enforcement measures for unlawful tree damaging activity.

Compliance and enforcement provisions under the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016
Submitted by City of Mitcham, the motion calls for a review of compliance and enforcement provisions within the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016 to strengthen councils’ ability to respond to planning breaches.
