Why councils should apply

The Special Local Roads Program is a merit-based grant scheme aimed at enhancing the regional and metropolitan road network by strategically supporting projects that deliver positive economic, social, environmental and safety outcomes for councils and their communities.

The program empowers councils to foster safer, more efficient and economically beneficial infrastructure across the state.

All South Australian councils are eligible to apply for SLRP funding.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online, via LGA’s grant portal (Smarty Grants). A link to the application form will be provided when the grant round is open.

All applications must include a council contribution of at least one-third of the total project cost for rural and regional councils, and at least one-half of the total project cost for metropolitan councils.

Applications will be assessed by the Local Government Transport Advisory Panel against the criteria in the SLRP Funding Guidelines.

Learn about the process

A one-hour online information session will be held on Wednesday 11 March to give councils further information about the application and assessment process.

Please register your interest as soon as possible and you’ll receive an email confirmation with details about the meeting.
