The Automated External Defibrillator (Public Access) Bill 2002 was passed by the SA Parliament in November 2022 and received royal assent on 8 December 2022.

This makes South Australia the first jurisdiction in the country to mandate the installation of Automatic External Defibrillators (AED).

The Act comes into force on 1 January 2025 for government agencies. It requires the installation and registration of AEDs in certain buildings, facilities and vehicles. This burden falls wholly upon the owners of these facilities and buildings to install and maintain the AED.

To help councils manage these new requirements, LGA Procurement is launching a new panel  – Personal Safety –  that includes Defibrillators as a subcategory. This will be available from Sunday 1 October 2023 via VendorPanel.

To make purchasing and maintaining these AED's as easy as possible for councils we have prepared a panel of suppliers that you can engage through Vendor Panel.

Other products and services are included in this panel and we encourage councils to review the category matrix during the acquisition planning stage.
