LGA Mutual
LGA Mutual was established by the LGA in 2019 as part of a restructure of the LGA’s self-insurance Schemes.
LGA Mutual manages the LGA Mutual Liability Scheme and the LGA Workers Compensation Scheme as one entity. These services are provided by Local Government Risk Services under a service agreement.
Our key value proposition is that we provide:
- Stable contributions – not subject to fluctuating insurance market
- Extensive cover – unique cover to meet our Members' needs with minimal exclusions
- Very low excess – on individual claims and we also manage any under excess claims
- Risk services – tailored to meet the business needs of our Members.
Achievements
- 100% council membership of both schemes.
- Investment by schemes and councils in risk management.
- Both schemes are financially secure, have stable council contributions, and stable claims (costs and numbers).
- Deliver approximately $65 million of value to councils each year, such as through reduced contributions and value added programs.
- Savings of over $340 million to the local government sector, from being a self-insured employer.
Priorities
- Successful implementation of the LG Safe WHS framework.
- A focus on improving the customer experience.
- Increasing our member engagement activities and creating opportunities to share stories and experiences of members in their risk management journey.
- Expanding our strategic risk services, internal audit capabilities, and waste management risk assessment program.
- Making sure our services evolve and continue to meet members needs and their emerging risks.
- Making sure our performance meets industry benchmarks and we're continually providing value for money services to members.
