Emergency management support

Local government is a key participant in emergency management. Councils contribute to the safety and wellbeing of their communities by carrying out hazard reduction and by supporting local emergency response and recovery.

LGA supports councils by providing emergency management advice and resources.

LGA's role during state emergencies

Trained staff from across SA local government provide support during a declared state emergency. LGA leads this formal support group and provides training and resources to staff who volunteer to take part.

Community support hubs

Support for communities during an emergency is sometimes provided by a community support hub. These community-led hubs help people prepare for, and recover from, emergencies and disruptions in their area.

Community support hubs strengthen connections between individuals, community groups and services, councils, and emergency services.
